Course Overview

Meltdowns are part of child development, and in children with delays and special needs, meltdowns can be more intense, more frequent, and persist later through childhood than neuro-typically developing children. This course reviews why meltdowns occur, how to recognize when they are reactive versus deliberate, and how to support the child in a meltdown to decrease intensity and duration of the meltdowns.

In this course, you will learn how to do the following:

  1. Identify reasons children have meltdowns
  2. List things to avoid doing while a child is having a meltdown
  3. Have an understanding of physical items that can be used while a child is in a meltdown
  4. Identify the 5 step plan that can be used during a meltdown in order to help calm a child
  5. Identify 4 things to remember when taking action during a meltdown
