Course Overview
Do you ever feel stuck when trying to move a child therapeutically through the stages of toy play? Do you ever feel at a loss when a child wants to get out the toys but isn’t really playing with them in a playful way, and you don’t know how to get in with him? If so, this course is for you! This course on Play: How to Enhance Object/Toy Play will review the sequence of the development of symbolic play and identify the skills that are required for symbolic play. It will assist clinicians in identifying which level a child is playing at, increase awareness of where a clinician may be entering play at, and assist clinicians on strategies to move to the next level of play.
In this course, you will learn how to do the following:
- Identify the stages of play development.
- Identify necessary foundational skills to participate in symbolic play.
- Identify various strategies to engage a child in play at each stage.
- Learn how to use the behaviors and levels of performance of the child to determine mastery of a play skill.
Who Should Take this Course
This course is intended for professionals who are having trouble supporting children who “get stuck” in toy play and aren’t confident in their ability to move the child through the developmental levels of play.
