Course Overview

This course identities the reasons why handwriting should be assessed and why a child may be having difficulty with handwriting.  It reviews the underlying biomechanics that impact handwriting, as well as the sensory systems that contribute to efficient and effective handwriting. It also reviews treatment strategies that can be used to remediate handwriting using a whole body approach.

In this course, you will learn how to identify the following:

  1. The developmental functions involved in handwriting
  2. Body systems that contribute to handwriting
  3. How to assess developmental functions and body systems that contribute to handwriting
  4. How to identify red flags of other academic issues
  5. Treatment strategies to improve the body systems contributing to difficulty with handwriting

Who Should Take this Course

This course is intended for clinicians who are working with children of all abilities who may be demonstrating deficits in handwriting skills that have been unable to be remediated with practice and repetition.

CEUs Awarded

This course has been approved by Louisiana Occupational Therapy Association (LOTA) for 3.0 CEUs. Upon successful completion of the end-of-course quiz, students will be awarded a certificate with this CEU information.

About the Instructor – Allison LeBouef, LOTR

Allison LeBouef is an occupational therapist and co-founder and co-clinical director of Pediatric Therapy and Learning Center. She has 20+ years of experience evaluating and treating children with developmental challenges, as well as training other OTs to do the same.  She holds numerous certifications, most notably Sensory Integration and Praxis (SIPT), Profectum DIR Fellows–Level 2, and SOS Approach to Feeding.

About Pediatric Therapy and Learning Center

Pediatric Therapy and Learning Center (PTLC) is a play-based therapy center founded by Allison LeBouef, LOTR, and Marsha LeGoullon, CCC-SLP, in 2007 in Lafayette, Louisiana.
