Course Overview

This is a 3-part course that outlines and shows video examples of developmental skills beyond what is often represented in typical milestone charts. The intention is to help parents, caregivers, and daycare or preschool teachers understand when to seek out or recommend therapy services. The learner will gain skills in observing typical patterns of development related to foundational skills and communications skills. They will also understand when a pattern of development is of concern. Finally, the learner will understand what steps to take if concerns are noted.

After part 1 of this course, you will be able to …

  1. Describe and identify 6 foundational skills  
  2. Identify the expected patterns and patterns of concern for each of these 6 skills. 
  3. Observe and identify these patterns for the toddlers in your life

After part 2 of this course, you will be able to …

  1. Describe and identify characteristics of 6 areas related to communication development.
  2. Identify the expected patterns and patterns of concern for each of these 6 areas.
  3. Observe and identify these patterns for the toddlers in your life

After part 3 of this course, you will be able to …

  1. Fill out the handouts from the previous parts of this course.
  2. Use those handouts to better understand a toddler’s patterns
  3. Respond effectively if a toddler is showing patterns of concern in their foundational or communication skills.

Who Should Take this Course

This course is intended for parents and caregivers of toddlers, daycare providers, and early intervention/preschool teachers. New speech therapy and occupational therapy clinicians working in pediatric settings may also find this helpful.

Time to Complete

It should take about 1.25 hours to complete this entire course. Your progress will be saved so you do not need to complete the entire course in one sitting. Upon completing the course, you will be awarded a certificate.

About the Instructor – Marsha Thibodeaux LeGoullon, M.A., CCC-SLP

Marsha LeGoullon is a speech-language pathologist as well as co-founder and co-clinical director of Pediatric Therapy and Learning Center (PTLC). She has 25+ years of experience in evaluating and treating children with developmental challenges, working closely with occupational therapists. Marsha frequently attends national developmental conferences and has numerous certifications, most notably Profectum DIR Fellows-Level 2, PROMPT,  and  Course 1 of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT).

Marsha is well-known in the speech-language pathology community as a proactive clinician who is always seeking to bring the best services to children in the Acadiana area.

About Pediatric Therapy and Learning Center

Pediatric Therapy and Learning Center (PTLC) is a play-based therapy center founded by Allison LeBouef, LOTR, and Marsha LeGoullon, CCC-SLP, in 2007 in Lafayette, Louisiana. It offers occupational therapy, feeding therapy, speech-language therapy, and therapeutic group activities to the children of Acadiana. 

Since its inception, PTLC has held true to its vision of providing high-quality services using a developmental, relationship-based, and strength-based framework. Extensive education/training for both professionals and parents are also part of its core values.
